MOON SPOTS
DEFINITION

Moon spots are round spots of color varying from a light cream to a dark brown that can be superimposed over any other color pattern (except white). The extent of the moon spotting and the final color of the spots variable. They are random, as opposed to the strict symmetrical appearance of the Agouti patterns. Most of them are distinctly round-inspiring the name. Most moon spots are fairly dark in newborns, and then become distinctly paler later. This is so pronounced that they could be missed on some kids, even though they might be very obvious  later.

Explanation:

Many people are confused about what is and is not a moon spots. Suspected moon spots on the throat or face are usually markings of the other coat patterns (such as the Carmel or Badgerface) and not true moon spots. White markings on parts of the face make this even more deceiving because the white will mask the true colors underneath. Moon spots will not  show up on white areas because white is actually the " lack of color".  The color of moon spots will often lighten as young kids mature, so moon spots showing up as chocolate will typically turn light brown  as the kid ages.

Here at Deer Springs Fainting Goat Farm a vet comes to our farm and pulls blood samples on our herd of Fainters.  All our  adult herd of Fainters are tested  negative for CL,CAE,and Johnes.  This is great news for us and you as buyers. We will be testing our herd in future and any new goats purchased. All new Fainting goats purchased will be quarantined and tested to ensure our herd stays disease free. We are in the MS USDA scrapie program also.

Pedigrees are provided with each kid purchased from us. All BREEDING kids are registered with the Myotonic Goat Registry before they leave our farm. We do not double register our purchased kids.  The new buyer will be provided with a transfer form to transfer the new kid into your name with the MGR and a kid application for registration with the IFGA if parents are registered. We have been a member of the International Fainting Goat Association since 1996 and member of the Myotonic Goat Registry since its beginning in Sept. 2005.

All kids purchased from us are dewormed, hoof trimmed, tattoo, and eating 16% goat pellets, each kid goes to new homes with a New Kid Packet. We do use Tetanus Antitoxin when we band or tattoo our kids.  Our kids are handled from birth and not pastured raised. Kids go to new homes at 3 months of age.  Only the best bucklings will be sold as breeders, all others will be wethered for pets. If  we would not want to use the buckling as a breeder we are not going to sale to you as one. Out of state buyers will be required to pay for a vet health certificate.
